The next-generation console from Microsoft will likely come in the form of a digital distribution platform called “Star Wars” for the Xbox, a source close to the company told the Financial Times.
The company already has licensing deals with Disney, and the two sides are reportedly discussing a licensing deal for Star Wars to be used as a platform for a new game called “Frozen 2.”
The deal is expected to be announced next week, but the sources said Microsoft has already been negotiating with Disney about licensing rights for “Frosty the Snowman” and “The Princess and the Frog” to use as a publishing platform for “Star War: The Force Awakens.”
“Star Trek: The Next Generation” would be the next logical title for a digital publishing platform, but it remains to be seen how many games could be created by the digital rights holders.
The deal could also include content that is already licensed, like the movie “The Little Mermaid,” the video game “Star Fox,” or other Disney films.
