A woman in the Indian capital, New Delhi, has been declared a hero after she helped her husband return to work after being diagnosed with terminal cancer.
The unidentified woman took her husband to a private hospital in the city on Sunday to receive treatment for a cancerous tumor in his stomach, but they could not go to a hospital that he could not access.
“I took him to a nearby hospital and got him to get treated,” the woman said.
The woman told the news channel that her husband had been living in an apartment for six months when the cancer was detected.
“He had gone to the hospital for treatment, but we had no money to pay for the doctor’s bill,” she said.
“We could not afford to pay the bill.
I helped him get a taxi and took him home.”
The woman, who has not been named, is a resident of a village in the capital, and said she was on her way to her home in the nearby district of Jhansi on Saturday.
She told NDTV that she was at home with her husband when she was diagnosed with cancer and went to the private hospital to get treatment.
The hospital in Delhi did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The man is said to be a pensioner who is currently undergoing treatment at the city’s prestigious Tihar Medical College.
